Laghi La Vota

In reality, we should speak of a lagoon rather than a lake because it is a large body of water near the sea. Fresh and salty waters, therefore, meet giving way to a constantly evolving territory. The agitation caused by the tides and the arrival of hydrogen peroxide from the rivers make this environment rich in fish and vegetation, also inhabited by various types of birds (woodcocks, mallards, herons, storks, etc.) which come here to nest. It is the last brackish coastal lake on the Calabrian Tyrrhenian coast and a resting place for migratory water birds, including ospreys and marsh harriers. The little bittern, the little bittern, the purple heron, the squacco heron and the flamingo also stop here. "La Vota" is full of reeds and sandy areas and in its waters you can find mullet, sea bream, eels and molluscs.
